Research of Professor Miller highlighted in Chemistry World and C&E News
“Professor Stephen A. Miller (UF), Professor Seth M. Cohen (University of California at San Diego), and coworkers Ha Nguyen (UF) and Zhenjie Zhang (UCSD) have mingled their research expertise to discover and characterizepolyMOFs. Professor Miller’s research group focuses on polymerization chemistry, especially biorenewable polymers. Professor Cohen is an accomplished researcher in the field of Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs). The collaboration involved the seemingly bad idea of using floppy polymers to replace the small, molecular connectors usually employed to make highly organized MOFs. Instead of a mess, the researchers could tune the annealing conditions to yield highly organized Metal Organic Frameworks with an orderly arrangement of polymers running through them.”
2015 Herbert A. and Marjorie G. Laitinen Graduate Fellowship
“The Analytical Chemistry Division is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2015 Herbert A. and Marjorie G. Laitinen Graduate Fellowship, Ms. Rainey Patterson. Rainey is a graduate of The College of Charleston and a member of Prof. Rick Yost’s research group. Her dissertation research focuses on innovative methods of understanding the metabolomics of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease progression. Congratulations Rainey!”
Ann R. Stasch Summer Fellowships Recipients Announced
“We are pleased to announce the recipients of the first Ann R. Stasch Summer Fellowships. The endowment honors our first woman doctoral student, Ann R. Stasch, Ph.D. 1956 and recognizes excellence in research, scholarship, teaching, leadership and service.”
2015 James and Laura Winefordner Graduate Fellowship
“The Department of Chemistry is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2015 James and Laura Winefordner Summer Research Fellowship. This annual award, for graduate students in the analytical chemistry division, recognizes overall excellence in research, scholarship, teaching and departmental service. The 2015 recipient is Ms. Rainey Patterson, a graduate of The College of Charleston and a member of Prof. Rick Yost’s research group. Rainey’s dissertation research focuses on innovative methods of understanding the metabolomics of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease progression. Congratulations Rainey!”
ACS Publications Awards Professor Brent Sumerlin.
“Professor Brent Sumerlin has been named the 2015 ACS Biomacromolecules/Macromolecules Young Investigator Award winner. The annual award, sponsored by the journals Biomacromolecules, Macromolecules, and ACS Macro Letters along with the Division of Polymer Chemistry of the ACS, honors the contributions of two individuals who have made a major impact on the field of polymer science.”
Michael Sims Receives an NSF Fellowship Award
“Michael Sims, a first-year graduate student seeking a Ph.D. within the Department of Chemistry at UF, has been honored with a National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship. The total value of each award exceeds $100,000 over a three-year period. Widely regarded as one of the most prestigious honors a graduate student can receive, this year, just 2,000 award recipients were chosen from more than 16,000 applicants nationwide.”
