Seminars

Each year, 5 to 8 well-known scientists present seminars of topics of interest to the Division members. Seminars are held on Wednesdays at 4 – 5 p.m. in 207 Leigh Hall unless otherwise noted. Refreshments are served at 3:50.

Also, every graduate student must give 2 seminars in the Analytical Chemistry Seminar Course (CHM 6190) prior to graduation.

How long do I take courses?

Most graduate students take courses for 3-4 semesters.

When do I start cumulative examinations?

For a student entering with a BS degree, he/she starts about 10 months after entering and ones entering with a MS degree start about 5 months after entering.

When do I take the oral qualifying examination?

Students entering with a BS degree commonly take the oral during their 7th semester (summers count) and those entering with a MS degree commonly take the oral during their 6th semester after entering UF.

What is the average time for a student entering with a BS to receive the PhD degree?

It usually takes 3-3/4 to 5 years.
