Ron joins a number of previous awardees from the Department of Chemistry including Jon Stewart (2006), Lisa McElwee-White (2007), Adrian Roitberg (2007), Gail Fanucci (2009), and Weihong Tan (2010). In addition to the title, Distinguished Mentor faculty receive $5,000 per year for two years to be spent at their discretion.”

Mukherjee selected as Finalist for the Emerging Scholar Award and Madelyn Lockhart Award
“Shreya Mukherjee, a graduate student in Prof. George Christou’s research group, has been selected as a Finalist for the 2011 Association for Academic Women (AAW) Emerging Scholar Award and Madelyn Lockhart Dissertation Fellowship Award. Shreya is one of five graduate students to receive this prestigious award from the University of Florida in 2011. The Finalists each received a $1,000 award from the UF President’s Office to help support them through the final stage of their PhD studies. The award was presented at the Women’s History Month reception and awards ceremony at the President’s House on March 24, 2011. Shreya expects to complete her PhD by December, 2011. The main focus of her PhD thesis is the synthesis and characterization of polynuclear metal clusters with relevance to nanoscale magnetic materials and synthetic models of the water oxidizing complex of Photosystem II.”

“Alan J. Heeger from the University of California at Santa Barbara, a 2000 Chemistry Nobel Laureate, will present the Jackson Lecture on Wednesday, February 16th in Little Hall, Room 109 at 4:05 pm. The title of his presentation is “Plastic Solar Cells: Self-Assembly of Bulk Heterojunction Nano-materials by Spontaneous Phase Separation”.”
