Aponick Group Research Highlighted in Nature Chemistry

“In the Aponick group, Flavio Cardoso has been studying the preparation of a new class of biaryl ligands for asymmetric catalysis. Biaryls containing 5-membered heterocycles were hypothesized to be excellent P,N-ligands, but their preparation as a single enantiomer required new design strategies. Cardoso and Aponick, with Khalil Abboud, recently published their new approach involving ground state stabilization of the chiral conformer as aJACSCommunication. This work was recently highlighted inNature Chemistrywhere it is noted that ?-stacking greatly increases the configurational stability of these biaryls, which function as highly enantioselective ligands in the asymmetric A3-coupling reaction.
