Dr. Ken Wagener receives Paul J. Flory Polymer Education Award

“Dr. Ken Wagener has been selected for the 2016�American Chemical Society�Polymer Division�Paul J. Flory Polymer Education Award. The award, which is presented to one polymer scientist in the nation every other year, recognizes extraordinary contributions to polymer science and engineering. Wagener also is being honored for outstanding achievements in promoting undergraduate and graduate polymer education. The award is named for distinguished American chemist Paul J. Flory, who won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1974 for his research achievements in the physical chemistry of macromolecules.”

Professor Veige wins 2012 UF Outstanding Mentor of Undergraduate Research Award

“Congratulations to Professor Adam S. Veige on winning the 2012 UF Outstanding Mentor of Undergraduate Research Award. Professor Veige received the award on Sunday October 28th at the Swamp Symphony held at Flavet Field. The award was made in connection with the 2012 Homecoming Education Celebration. Since 1959, the event gives students an opportunity to nominate teachers and faculty who have had an outstanding impact on their academic career. Criteria for the award included a demonstrated history of 1) guiding students in planning for post-graduate research, 2) creating opportunities for students to do research, 3) mentoring students from diverse economic and social backgrounds, 4) actively encouraging students to publish their research, 5) coaching students in professional standards for presentation, and 6) educating students about grants and funding for research.”

Prof. Castellano, 2011 HHMI Science for Life Distinguished Mentor

“Ron Castellano, Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry, has been named a 2011 HHMI Science for Life Distinguished Mentor. The award is given annually and honors excellence in undergraduate mentoring. Dr. Castellano was one of three UF faculty presented with the award at the Annual Spring Undergraduate Research Awards reception held March 28, 2011 at the UF President’s House. Ron joins a number of previous awardees from the Department of Chemistry including Jon Stewart (2006), Lisa McElwee-White (2007), Adrian Roitberg (2007), Gail Fanucci (2009), and Weihong Tan (2010). In addition to the title, Distinguished Mentor faculty receive $5,000 per year for two years to be spent at their discretion.”

Professor Stewart to receive 2009-2010 CLAS Sciences Teaching Award”

“Professor Jon Stewart will receive one of the 2009-2010 College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Teaching Awards. Many fine CLAS teachers were nominated for these awards and success in such a competition is a signal of achievement. An award of $2,000 will be made to recipients in recognition of their contributions to teaching. All Teaching/Advising Award winners will be officially recognized at a reception at the University President’s House. The award committee was very impressed with Professor Stewart’s statement on teaching philosophy. A booklet of these statements from several awardees will soon be available for new faculty and will also be posted on the CLAS website. Congratulations to Professor Stewart for this teaching achievement!”
