The Department of Chemistry at the University of Florida is a comprehensive department granting bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. degrees with specialization in all areas including biochemistry, nanochemistry, analytical, inorganic, organic, physical, polymer, synthetic, and theoretical chemistry.
Regarding graduate chemistry degree production, the University of Florida ranks nationally in the top three and is among the top 20 in undergraduate degree production, having >700 total undergraduate chemistry majors. Within the State of Florida, we account for 30 percent of all chemistry degrees, including over 60 percent of all Ph.D. degrees.
Our department is housed in four adjacent buildings (~365,000 gross sq. ft.), including the state-of-the-art Scott Family Hall. We currently have 44 tenure track faculty members, 13 instructional faculty members, 10 teaching and research support faculty members, >35 staff members, ~280 graduate students, and more than 80 postdoctoral and other scientific associates.
