MolPOV2 Download

An updated version of MolPOV2 (Version 2.0.8) is available for download.   It may be updated over the next few months as bugs are reported and features are added. Check back often to make sure you have the latest version. You can check your current version with Help|About.

Version 2.0.8 addresses several problems and issues in version 2.0.0 and is a highly recommended upgrade.  Most importantly, version 2.0.8 will successfully read Protein Data Bank files as downloaded from the PDB Web site (now located at http://www.rcsb.org/pdb/).  Version 2.0.0 could not read these file downloads due to the Unix-style line termination in the downloaded files.

Version 2.0.8 updates 2.0.7.  The update fixes a bug in the POVRay Style Read/Write feature, adds animation options, and can read PDB files with >32,000 atoms.

Other improvements over 2.0.0 include:

-Improved previewer function.

-Initial camera and light positions are determined by the size of the molecule.

MolPOV Version 2.0.8 was produced with Visual Basic 6 and requires new system library files included in the download.  Previous versions should be UNINSTALLED before installing the new version.  DO NOT ATTEMPT A FULL INSTALLATION OVER AN OLD INSTALLATION WITHOUT REMOVING THE OLD PROGRAM FIRST (by using Control Panel|Add/Remove Programs).  Note: previously downloaded files and renders will NOT be removed by the uninstall routine.

If you do not have POV-Ray already, download and install the latest version of POV-Ray for Windows (www.povray.org) before installing MolPOV in order to allow launching of POV-Ray by MolPOV.  The latest version of POV-Ray (version 3.5 as of September 2003) has new features that tend to complicate its use with MolPOV.  The implications for users of POV-Ray 3.5 with MolPOV 2 will be assessed and the next minor upgrade of MolPOV will take these changes into account.  For now, it is recommended that “Options | Keep Single Instance” in the POV-Ray 3.5 menu be unchecked to prevent error messages.   In addition, it is helpful to exit POV-Ray after each render.

Click on the link here MP2install.exe to download the installation file.

The above are self-extracting files that will launch the setup. Follow the on-screen instructions. You might want to check out the instructions and new features in the readme file (also included in the zip file).

MolPOV2 is freeware.  Suggestions/bug reports welcome, e-mail der@chem.ufl.edu.
