Chemistry Welcomes New Chair
The Department of Chemistry is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Daniel R. Talham as Chair. Dan served as Interim Chair for the Fall 2006 semester, and has agreed to continue his work through July 2009. Dr. David Richardson stepped down August 15th after serving as Chair for six years.
Dan joined our department in 1989 after receiving his Ph.D. from The John Hopkins University in 1985 and postdoctoral stays at Oxford University and MIT. He is a tenured professor and former chair of the Florida Advanced Materials Chemistry Conference. His research interests are in the general area of inorganic materials and thin films. Current research projects include studies of nanoparticles and thin films of molecule-based magnets, inorganic surfaces for immobilizing biomolecules, and the interactions between the organic and inorganic components of biominerals.
Dan is the first author or senior author on more than 120 peer-reviewed publications. He currently serves on the editorial advisory boards of the American Chemical Society journals Chemistry of Materials and Langmuir.
