The thread that connects our interests is the study of mixed organic/inorganic solids, surfaces, and interfaces.  By combining both organic and inorganic components into a single system, new phenomena often result that are not seen in purely organic or purely inorganic materials. We have chosen a handful of different problems for study, divided among the areas of nanoassembly at interfaces, molecule based magnets, biominerals, and organic/inorganic surfaces for bioapplications.  In addition to original synthesis, we study the physical properties, molecular and solid-state structures, interfacial chemistry, and applications of mixed organic/inorganic materials.
